Good Friday Observed in city
In churches and cathedrals across the city, believers congregated for the special morning mass to observe Good Friday.
In
many churches, prayers went on till 3 p.m., the time Christians believe
Jesus Christ breathed his last. Evening ceremonies were also held in
many churches to mark the day. The period of mourning the death of
Christ will end late night on Saturday, when the Easter celebrations
will formally begin, said Fr. P.S. George, who heads Bosco Mane.
He
said even at the children’s shelter, though no single religion is
practised, members gathered to speak about universal love and sacrifice.
For many Christians, who have been fasting or observing Lent for the
past 40 days, Easter marks the end of the 40-day period.
Shiny,
a consultant with a financial services company, said those who don’t
fast through the month for health reasons or others, do so today.” She
described the service at St. Mary’s Cathedral as a “very peaceful and
solemn one”, where she got an opportunity to revisit the basic tenets of
her faith. Sunday, she said, marks the end of 40 days of Lent and the
resurrection of Jesus Christ.
